The Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has handed over 732 schools to the Ministry of Education in Afghanistan. The Citizens' Charter National Priority Program (CCNPP), under the MRRD, is constructing 6,000 school buildings in 34 provinces in two years. 2.5 million children are expected to gain access to healthy learning environments as a result. In addition, the project is already creating employment opportunities for thousands of citizens across the country. CCNPP engineering team has developed 28 types of designs, for various climatic and geographical conditions. The designs are for either 6, 8, 10, or 12 classroom schools and differ in terms of the construction materials used. The construction of these schools will be completed in 2 phases. In first phase, around 2,647 school buildings will be constructed in 17 provinces including Kabul, Nangarhar, Nuristan, Logar, Khost, Maidan Wardak, Ghazni, Paktika, Kunduz, Balkh, Faryab, Herat, Badghis, Kandahar, Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul.
