The Afghanistan Resilience Trust Fund (ARTF) is a multi-donor trust fund that coordinates international aid to improve the lives of Afghans. It’s administered by the World Bank and currently supported by 32 donor partners.
Our Recent Work
Established in 2002, the ARTF was the largest source of on-budget financing for Afghanistan’s development until the political event in Afghanistan in August 2021. Until then, it funded Afghanistan’s national priority projects, including in health, education, agriculture, rural development, infrastructure, and public financial management.
The ARTF was originally known as the “Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund”, however, to reflect a shift in focus of the multi-donor Trust Fund’s strategic intervention after August 2021, its Steering Committee endorsed a revision of the name of the trust fund to “Afghanistan Resilience Trust Fund”.
Since 2022, the ARTF has taken a programmatic approach to provide focused support for essential basic services and livelihoods for the Afghan people through United Nations (UN) agencies and selected nongovernmental organization (NGO) partners.
In Focus
The ARTF works across all 34 provinces of Afghanistan and provides essential basic services support in health, education, food security and livelihoods, community resilience, and water management.
Here are highlights of our achievements since 2022 (data as of January 2024):
• 7,527,114 people received health and nutrition support.
• 1,530,972 children vaccinated.
• 5,623,618 children and mothers received nutrition services.
• 955,728 births took place at project-financed facilities.
• 101,775 women employed in agricultural production.
• 32,000 metric tons of certified wheat seeds produced in 2023.
• 88,000 female-headed households and persons with disabilities received cash transfers/social grants.
• 1.8 million Afghans trained on disaster risk management, community mobilization, and health and nutrition.
• 5,050 teachers hired of which 1,900 are female.
• 5,000 Community Based Education (CBE) schools open and operational with 67% girls.
• 200,000 children supported with learning opportunities (73% girls).
• 4,760 staff in 400 institutions (336 NGOs and 64 CSOs) received capacity building training.
